Mar 03, 2026: call a save point
Edmund McMillen is an auteur among game developers. So much of every game he's made has his heart, soul, and vision poured into. Mewgenics is no exception.
I have barely scratched the surface of this game, the level of depth in its gameplay has barely revealed itself to me. As an avid player of The Binding of Isaac I am no stranger to learning a game with great depth, but Mewgenics is a whole other beast entirely. From the different classes your cats can take on the alley with, and their respective treasure trove of abilities and perks, to the breeding mechanics a player like myself can't help but figure out ways to maximize my cats stats. Each aspect of the game shows a level of care and love from all its contributors that so many games fall short of these days.
And of course, the game is weird as hell. My mom texted me that dad's cats had attempted to inbreed, only for one to show no interest. All I could assure her was that there would be plenty of inbreeding to come. The artstyle is gritty and unapologetic in its depiction of the world and people. The writing is funny but sad if you think about it too hard. There's a plethora of references to internet and pop culture that only the keenest of eyes will catch all of. And for some reason, Rivers Cuomo is here as the voice of some of the cats.
Stellar game.
Hey, another thing! Video game reviews!
As part of adding video game reviews, I took a beat to rip back through restaurant (table-schema) and local card shop (lcs) reviews, and created a unified approach to reviews. Theoretically, I can add music reviews next with minimal impacts to the codebase. Pretty big leap forward all things considered.
And, uh, the bot did this for me in an hour. I couldn't have done this by myself for weeks. Crazy how good this shit is getting.
Here's an example of the new props being passed to the ReleaseSection component:

blah, blah, blah
</ReleaseSection>If you look closely, you'll see the "type" for video games, is not video games, it's save-point. That's a shoutout to my favorite podcast of all time:
bonnibel and declan had an epic 46 podcast run that I'll never forget (might have been 47 or 48 if you factor in the "lost" episodes). I still own the domain name and perhaps hold out hope there's a trillion dollar idea inside here somewhere. If someone is going to ruin the world, it might as well be us.
scroll amendment · 2026-03-03Hey podcasters, if you have a better image than the one I stole off the internet, shoot it over to me. I'll add the more hi-res version in a future update. One more story before we close out. When they were struggling to gain a foothold, I created a fake gmail account ([email protected] [no longer valid]), and emailed in some dumb question for that segment of the show. I don't recall what I said, but they didn't know it was me until well past the last episode of the podcast.
I love this dynamic duo and I listend to every second of all 46 episodes. I also got a co-worker at the time hooked as well. I'll do my part. 💖
You can still find remnants of and rip through all of the episodes if you know where to look.
Iterate.
