Oct 05, 2026: hello darkness
I'm a blow hard on the regular. Today's example included some strong advice to two folks that needed some strong (and positive) direction. I gave both of them an interesting look into themselves based upon what I see from them every day. Equal parts direct and......inspirational, if I may take a moment to bust out some humble brag.
Do you want to know what the universe made sure to deliver me that same day? I was forced to look into the do as I say, not as I do mirror when I realized how quickly I spiraled into a bad place when things didn't go my way later this evening. Two for the good guys (I feel confident I helped today) and one for the bad guys (I lost my mentals). Imma chalk that up as a team victory today.
2 - 1 = one love
I'm not sure there was a cloud in the sky today. When these images were taken, ya boi james hadn't gone through it yet. He was just basking in sunshine and making a quick pitstop at the post office to ship some shit at the home of the illuminati.
As an aside, I like to think that if we have ever met IRL for anything but the briefest of moments that I have left an impression. Not in the arrogant way that may sound to an outsider either. More like you saw me and I saw you in a way that may never be duplicated. You make me a unique version of me and I hope you see that reflected the same.
Point being, I gave nikkigirl the full "I met a serial killer at the post office" story from today. I'll never tell that story again. The amount of complete insanity that only she has contributed to or has been present for is remarkable.
Watch lulu show up and tell me my own story tomorrow at volleyball on some bullshit.

Let's make a quick pitstop with getting some of the homies fully onboarded to the database.

Yo, happy 47th birthday to me. Sometimes I forget just how long I've been doing boring shit for. I didn't even bother to use some gay ass color on these ones (until today with that sassy splash of blue).
As I get deeper into how the site works and then rethink what I once thought, new pointless ideas flow free. While I don't use production much (don't wanna ruin them click metrics), I use the site in DEV daily. Part testing, part just cuz I enjoy it. There's a lotta parts and bits around this place. lulz
What I think I was trying to say is that when I was using the site today, I didn't like how the tag links worked globally. Let's quickly step through what changed from there:
cipher saysConsistent Tag Links
- Tag links across Chronicles, snapshots, directories, homepage cards, and standalone pages now follow the matching
dojo.tags.href. - Missing or blank destinations fall back to the normalized Chronicle tag archive; intentionally disabled tags stay non-clickable.
- Authored hrefs and persona-context routes no longer override stored destinations. Ranking links and explicit archive navigation keep their intended routes.
- Tag metadata loads once per request, with no per-tag queries or build-time database reads. Regression coverage checks snapshot states, desktop and mobile layouts, and routing precedence.
- Validation passed: 187 test suites, 903 tests, coverage thresholds, production build, and desktop/mobile Chromium hydration checks. Existing metadata and punctuation violations remain; Vitest is blocked by missing
jsdom.
Speaking of metrics, I think I noted here that I was forced to go to the (hopefully inexpensive) pro tier of my Vercel server just a few days a go. Good news, the paid metrics window opened up from thirty days and now extends to the one year window.
While these numbers are modest and nothing to brag about at scale, I am happy to see the overall trend line. I bet the nerdiest amongst you would be interested to learn just how international my audience is. Or just how clever they are with a VPN connection. Or, maybe even more likely, some small robot army combing the furthest reaches of these here internets on some one robot must rule them all mission.
With less than 12 months of full activity we are looking at about a thousand clicks per month on average. Not bad for this silly side project.
As noted above, I spiraled into a dark place very quickly tonight. It caught me very much off-guard. You know what's the most AMERICA thing I could do to attack a strong bout of sadness? Retail therapy!
I recently mentioned that I have a should-I-buy-a-box-of-cards algorithm and a bit of the algo includes, do I already have a box of it? If yes, I can open what I buy. If no, I have to buy TWO and at that point sheeeeeeet - I'm ballin' on a budget, kid.
Two things about the images above: first, when I go thrifting, I keep my eyes open and on the lookout for cute backpacks. Backpacks make good containers for random cards. In this case, all of my unopened cards from the 2025-26 basketball season are in this minecraft backpack. What's inside means that anytime I see these card boxes again, maybe I should buy them.
- cooper flagg, [261st] 🆕 (3 cards)
I call that minecraft backpack BACKPACK-CAPTURE-THE-FLAGG because there are multiple backpacks and all of the cards inside of this one are a chance to hit some cooper flagg cards. And they will sit unopened - hopefully until long after I have been absorbed back into the universe and in whomever comes in to clean up after my mess. For the right person, this will be quite the adventure.
And would you look at that! A capture the flagg hit inside a couple of cellos. Automatic victory is declared.
- kevin garnett, [62nd] ↗️ (198 cards)
Tonight ended up being an unintentionally Minnesota evening and because of that, shouts to cal & the lazer, aden, ron, amber, marina, and david.
Both batches of cards scored me a teensy bit of fake joy. The American Way.
When I say I spiraled tonight, I mean spiraled. I can go to very dark places with a surpising velocity. On such a bright and sunny day even! How dare I.
I got sad and thought about this song.
At which point, I immediately turn that frown upside down because I remember sad affleck and joy returns to my soul. Thank you, ben.
Hello darkness, my old friend
I've come to talk with you again
Because a vision softly creeping
Left its seeds while I was sleeping
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence
I agree. lulz
