Sep 05, 2026: tcdb partners
I started the day with an act of kindness.
- 1991-92 Pinnacle, hockey (25/420; 6%)
- 1997-98 Score, hockey (9/270; 3.3%)
The note speaks for itself. Pay it forward.
Today is catch up on deals day, starting with an old pal from Lithuania. This is the seventh deal between Giedrius and I, but our first since 2023-05-03. I learned a good deal about international shipping in my early trading years through deals with my Lithuanian GOAT.
If NBA cards are heading out the door to Giedruis then I can always expect something I don't see every day on its way back as the return.
Lithuania is dope.
Up next? How about a one card deal that comes in as a curveball.
Hell yeah, John. If you need a beavis and butthead card from me, you get a beavis and butthead from me.
This is our first deal together. Very rock-n-roll.
Quick break for some code that I've been sitting on related to some of my favorite people: TCDb Trade Partners.
The next deal with mfreeman showed me a good opportunity to implement it and if you click the previous two links you will find the boilerplate starting point for another wing of my systems.
Hey bot, please summarize all changes made today for our audience.
Cipher Says:
- TCDb trade partners now have their own database records and pages.
- Trades, Homies, Clans, tags, Set Collector activity, Hall of Fame entries, and related Chronicles can connect to a trade partner.
- Trade partner names throughout the site now link to the new internal partner page.
- External TCDb profile links now appear only on the partner page and are clearly labeled.
- Missing Chronicle images no longer break the page.
- Missing images now show a message asking visitors to contact the site administrator.
- The same missing-image behavior is used across all Chronicle-based feeds.
- Navigation and tests were updated.
- All tests, type checks, lint checks, and formatting checks passed.
As noted above, Max is a Texan who knows which Texans he wants to collect. Our second deal was a good test case for new, fairly broad, features I've been looking to implement - so here we are.
- houston texans, football [6969th] 🆕 (53 cards)
- houston astros, baseball [6969th] 🆕 (361 cards)
- houston rockets, basketball [40th] 🆕 (1607 cards)
Now that I can tag a trade partner with a clan they represent, I will have an excuse to log all kinds of team data related to my collection. Yippee!!
Plus, fun cards are on their way back......and oh, anything logged as 6969 means I don't fall into the top 1000 on tcdb and thus am unranked in that category......and yeah, I forgot to snap a photo of this deal and so I drew an ugly face on the packaging instead.
Nice.
On a weird side quest, I landed at Jeramey's doorstep. He accepted and our second deal was born.
Nothing flashy going out and nothing flashy coming back. Scratched an itch all the same.
This next deal with Clay fell through the cracks of my process and ended up sitting there for over three weeks! Eek.
That said, as our eighteen deal together leaves the door, I'm pretty confident we have built up enough goodwill for a delay here or there to get in the way of a good time.
Always ready to help Clay out with his chase.
Last deal of the day is what triggered all of it to begin. Trades were behind, simple as that.
I've been sitting on this auto for awhile wondering when someone would snag it. Happy to help out Jack in our second deal together.
Any deals with an autograph automatically adds a little spice to the mix.
Before we get to starting to dig through the boxes of cards I got from wiscopullz yesterday, there's just a little bit of cleanup first.
First, I logged some cards that someone in the house left on the kitchen counter for me at some point. If it was you, report yourself in the comments. 🫠
- 2025 Stadium Club, baseball (50/200; 25%)
Next was a few stragglers from the puzzle box(es) I cleaned up.
- 1991 Upper Deck - Team Logo Holograms, baseball (24/28; 85.7%)
It's gonna be a lot of work to sort the latest batch from wiscopullz.
I've already started and stopped, flipped and flopped, while trying to figure out the best place to start. Large sweeping decisions are all we've got this early in the game.
First, bucket by category (baseball, basketball, football, etc.) and then break down into years.
After that......we'll worry about that far ahead once it gets here.
