As I play The Game, I can't help but continue to run these scenarios through my head. Do I try it this way? What if I go the exact opposite direction? Is both a thing? Can I find a random connection? Is that too far? Not far enough?
a tribe called quest all day today.
Powerful impact, boom, from the cannon
Not bragging, try to read my mind just imagine
Vocabulary's necessary
When digging into my library
Oh my gosh Oh my gosh
The entire world feels like a game these days. Everything gamified. Infinite notifications. How do you optimize to maximize your character build? Fuck if I know.
This album by the game was a whole moment. dr. dre, eminem, 50 cent, timbaland, hi-tek, busta rhymes, just blaze and on, and on, and on......so much glorious bloat and excess.
Anywho, this chronicles adventure is a bit like me putting you on the game. My Game.
Or at least how I play it.
I almost posted another mac miller (RIP) song, and instead I'm posting another waxahatchee song instead.
Please take it from here Katie.
I leave my home, desolate but not alone
I have a gift, I've been told, for seeing what's there
And I will chase all the rain, put it down, call it paint
To possess something arcane, oh it's a heavy weight
We leave love behind
Without a tear or a long goodbye
And as we wait for lightning to strike
We are enthralled by the calling of the eye
I'm mostly "caught up" now. Not quite. Mostly. Ish.
I'm also in a pretty good rhythm, with each different piece of these long winding days being built in a way that flows from one idea to the next. With minimal changes to my workflow, the app is now quite flexible and responsive to my daily whims.
I've spent the better part of the weekend with waxahatchee. At some point, I hip too much hop, and need to dial it back down. She's my favorite place to go when I need to recharge. This particular album is a collaboration with her sister - which is cute.
PS......I bet he wanted to hide when he called that timeout.
New music recap dropped.
🎯 Dramatic. Reflective. In your feels. 🎯
The song that rattled its way around my brain the most tonight strikes me as......beautiful. The powerful declaration of self. The layering of the musical components. When those drums hit, son.
de la soul also recently dropped a new album, Cabin in the Sky. This reminds me I owe it to them to give it a spin. It had to be impactful and difficult to make.
Plus, huge fucking shouts to prince paul.
I am james I be compelled to create. Anything.
Especially when I ain't.
It's a little past the bedtime that I was given by nikkigirl, so we'll wrap up with this closer.
As I drifted into the evening, I put on another go to album that gives me warmth when things aren't lit bro. This particular album got me through a divorce of a different kind. I've been meaning to write something about this album and an old pal I left behind for well over a year now.
He's still not over the fact that I chose me over them. I don't blame him in the slightest.
I'm always saying I won't change but
I ain't the same
Everything is different, I can't complain
Don't know what you missing
Shame on you
Yeah, yeah, yeah
Shame on you
Everything is strange, that's just a game
Everybody tripping, throwing it away
We was getting lifted, now we getting paid
Shame on you
We only just begun
No, we don't wanna hurt your feelings
I was only just begun
No, we don't wanna
Hurt (Hurt)
Feelings (Feelings)
I'm a bit melancholy right now. Not for any one thing. But for all of the things.
When I get a little tinge of sad, that's one of my oldest go to albums. Got me through a divorce this one did.
Maybe it's the fact I worked so hard to not meltdown emotionally this weekend. Maybe it's because I'm sick, haven't eaten well in days, and feeling a bit run down. Maybe work reminds me how hard having a day job is. Maybe I got myself in over my head. Maybe I've spent a lot of time wondering where all of the time went, right along with my little girl.
Mostly, maybe it's this:
Other people want to keep in touch
Something happens and it's not enough
Never thought that it would mean so much
Other people want to keep in touch
I originally planned to end on that dour note, and then I got to pulling this next deal and thinking about a long time friend......
Tomorrow's the big day.
My little girl isn't mine anymore.
You can't say yesterday, without ya bois showing up.
I'm not half the man I used to be
There's a shadow hangin' over me
Oh, yesterday came suddenly
As I thought about what to call today's blog, I thought about the thrill of the chase, which then had me thinking about an old favorite......
There's quite a bit of the previously mentioned nostalgia packed into this song. I got goosebumps as I listened to it and let the those old feelings wash over me.
The movie and nikkigirl. The song and the abbott.
1998 is so damn long ago.
The Chase.
Yesterday, 20 years. Today, 30 years? Jesus, Mary, & Joseph. I'm old enough to be someone's grandfather at this point.
I played the absolute wheels off busta's first album and I need but the simplest excuse to dive back in. nikkigirl has a story or two about this I'm sure.
Anywho, time for a detour down memory lane along with some twisted humor. You may have noticed that I have quite a few kids. Well......
......because......
In layman's terms: everything remains raw......because......ooh, baby, i like it raw.
Abortions, miscarriages, adoptions, and lord knows what else along the way. My first girl got pregnant at 16. My first girl's parents hated me shortly after that. My last kid isn't with me. My last kid's dad hated himself shortly after that.
Maybe put a hat on it, sir.
Nah......lol
I was today years old when I realized it would soon be the 20th anniversary of Fishscale, by ghostface killah. As any obsessive type would do, I loaded up the album and gave it some run.
I'm glad I did. 20 years will have you forgetting what an iconic album drop this was. When 9 milli bros landed, it had been a minute since the entire clan was on the same track. And that track was produced by DOOM? Shiiiiiiiiit.
Also, never meet your heros.
This box, referenced above, and now named BOX-B-SIDES-THREE-STACKS, caught my eye last week I think. See something, use something.
BOX-B-SIDES is one of 4 or 5 series of boxes I name, it's the 3rd [THREE] one in the series, and STACKS is a IYKYK situation.
I have no idea what's going on with this one. It's a bit all over the place, much like ya boi kanye west has always been.
I went rummaging in the sticker box because I was pretty sure I had at least one yeezy sticker around here someone, and jeepers, I sure did. At that point, I colored some random shit so the wrong thing didn't get the wrong emphasis. The real magic of the box though......
It reminded me of this song by jay-z and mr. west, co-produced by ya boi, the rza. Click back through the photos of the box and you'll note it's got NEW DAY plastered all over it.
Two of the largest artists of this century acknowledging the inspiration behind the theabbott will always catch my eye.
Me & The rza connect.
You may have noticed that I enjoy hip-hop. How very astute, dear reader. That's besides the point today.
Before we land the point though, whenever I spend a bunch of time with an idea in our chronicles, the more inefficiences or inconsistencies start to creep in. To combat that I took the basic YouTubeVideo component I have been using......
<YouTubeVideo id="eTea3v1FUls" />......and added a few props.......
<YouTubeVideo
id="eTea3v1FUls"
tag="waxahatchee"
song="war"
album="saint cloud"
/>......which leads to this result......
☝🏾☝🏾☝🏾 I'm not exactly thrilled with the label UI at present, but minimum viable product.
These new props streamline a few technical details that don't matter to you and will allow for a bunch of features I've been kicking around in my head for the last six months. The labels may also help you, dear reader, understand just a little bit more of whatever it is these chronicles are.
Point being, I needed a video to use as the first example, and as a non sequitor, my favorite new artist in all of the 2020's has to be waxahatchee. There's a certain hopeful dread in her that feels like home for me. Plus her voice. 💗🎤💗
Take us away, kathryn:
I run my soul and body down
If I tote this dead weight around
I'll keep lying to myself
I'm not that untrue
I'm in a war with myself
It's got nothing to do with you
It's got nothing to do with you
It's got nothing to do with you
You, you
Iterate.
Here's the real reason it is DOOM's day. There will be no shortage of our masked friend showing up here in the future.
IYKYK
......but I got chills when I heard how DOOM flipped the Scooby Doo......
We can hardly have a DOOM's day without Benzi Box. bonnibel + lulu were basically raised on this song. Absolute 🔥heater🔥.
His name's DOOM
They wonder just who is he
But don't worry
Believe me he'll get bizzy
When it comes to poetry he's got plenty
La la la
La la la la la
As previously implied, today's content was brought to you by the following vibes.
Well that was something. Trying to taste the rainbow, I suppose.
Today's content was brought to you by the following vibes.
lol, that's a comically large image. I forgot to post my a$ap rocky tag for last month, but I did try to tell you that I'm in my pretty flacko phase.
I'm going......
......fuck being polite.
