That was the post office, if you couldn't tell. 😉

Before we pick up nikkigirl from the airport, time for a quick stop at my favorite place.
That was the post office, if you couldn't tell. 😉
Had to drop off my deal with Craig, package style.
One of my favorite trade partners, Craig is back. This will be our eighteenth deal together, breaking a tie for third and moving him into sole possession of my third most frequent trader.
A giant batch of Mosaic out the door, a bit of football, a bit of hockey, and I'm excited for the return. Always a set collector's adventure with Craig.
Oh, and I had my pal gully with me to make sure I didn't miss a single card along the way.
I return to my leisurely processing of an old trade from the commish to close out my night (other than you here).
I love this gold set. Perfect late 90's, early 2000's vibes. I'm here for the vibes. As nikkigirl might say: Topps Gold! Topps Gold! Topps Gold!
The vast majority of my vintage hockey comes from Joshua. Most are beat to shit and I don't mind one little bit. Give me any vintage and let me get to building.
The rest of the sets I logged today:
Of the two card shops I planned to hit up today, this was the one I thought would be the banger of the two. I was......underwhelmed.
The caitlin is fun, I might have scored a slight deal on the beat to shit jordan, and still, I didn't have all that much fun. I saw tables and had hopes for boxes. My hopes were dashed. Plus, no giannis to be found.
Not a great shop for a set collector like me. 6 out of a possible 10.
One of my newest favorite things to do when traveling is to find the local card shops, even the one's found in malls across America. First up today J&M Sports Cards & Toy Collectibles.
Look at me in a mall. Yippee. Halfway decent mall if I'm being honest.
There was a TON of fun stuff in the store. Not a whole lot of sports cards though, regardless of the name. No boxes to sit and sift through. No giannis to be found.
As such, pretty disappointing 6.6 out of a possible 10.
+0.6 added because I found some primetime and set collecting fodder.
Last deal of the night, brought to you by Michael.
One Pokemon card going out the door. One fun card on the return.
Before we go, gotta clean up the outbound trades I owe to somebody, starting with CJ.
Wide ranging mix of cards going out the door: football, puzzle, king james (hi lulu), fortnite, and me replacing a lost card.
I'm excited to see what comes in return.
I told nikkigirl on Friday that 1996-1998 basketball was causing trouble and it was about to go down. The re-org has been minor hotfixes here or there, and no more. Time to bite the bullet and sort all of my basketball going back to 1971.
We'll see how long it takes - probably not too long. Hopefully.
Basically, it's all t-mac's fault this popped off. He's got a lot of cards in the baskeball years that were becoming a tighter and tighter fit. If the right, wrong, year starts to overflow - it's time to move cards from box to box. It's always something around here keeping me busy.
You'll have to trust me when I say this this detour relates the the re-org journey, because it does. Additionally, I've been holding onto some of this primetime stuff since I hit up ORIGINALS Mall of Antiques. Finding a new home for my deion box was a good excuse to also find and process a few magazines I found there a month or so ago.
To wrap it up, I took a new toy out of the box so that I could play with it. coach's Starting Lineup collection is starting to take shape. I love these ugly little guys.
I made my way through about a quarter of my basketball set collector boxes, maybe approaching a third.
Anywho, I've been much more disciplined when it comes to processing my basketball cards to get them into the current process, workflow, and overall idea. This big push is one half of the overall journey I've been on for going on 2 years now. It's a sllllooooowwwwwwww process, but I ain't got nothing but time.
It gets better almost every day.
Easily the deal of the day with this one. No real set collector vibes here, just fun cards.
Fun sam cassell to add to the collection. This card also kicked off a clean up project for this fsu alum.
At which point we will close with the best card of the day, and probably my newest bestest t-mac card. I made may way through most of his cards and reintegrating them into the latest idea. More to come here tomorrow when I finish reintegration.
The first of two fun deals begins with that set collecting love attached to it.
Little bit of football, decent amount of hockey. Let's log some of both.
Adding two RCs of HOFers to a set just starting to take shape is a fun pitstop inside of this deal.
All that to say, check out this card that closes out the set and makes Phil a hall of famer.
I don't often buy cards on tcdb. When I do, it's often from Jim.
Scored a nice batch of basketball here, especially heavy on the Finest + Metal, wWhich is always nice.
Now we layer on some jesus shuttlesworth to add to the fun. Three rookie cards for a HOFer goes hard.
There are a bunch of fairly rare kukuc cards and he gets logged into the snapshot table for the first time. Welcome aboard Toni. He could hoop.
But the bell of the ball is a completed set.
HOFer unlocked and deal number 7 in the books.
Simple deal with Mike. Satisfying all the same.
Moving on up! At one point, I was pretty sure the backcourt of lee mayberry and todd day was going to take over the NBA.
I was wrong.
Next up, GEM MINT.
Now, when I walked in - it legit smelled like someone just took a massive dump in the bathroom and they weren't expecting customers. Interesting start to the proceeds. lol
Hey, look at that! My first giannis scored from the 4th, and last, shop I visited. Rob was a friendly gentleman and he agrees, freak should stay with the bucks. Hard to argue with that one.
A successful final night on the town.
This photo looks like it was me who took the massive dump I had the pleasure to enjoy in the shop.
As I went to pull another trade, I couldn't find a card, and eventually realized it was in a box from another trade I hadn't opened yet. I have a good 5-10k worth of cards still in the original packaging from trades that are years old at this point. I'm slowly working to rectify that as I am able.
It's in there somewhere. Here's a few sets I'm working on that are also in there with him.
Sometimes, I take cards from my personal collection and trade them to upgrade to different, in some way better, area of my personal collection.
There's rules to this game.
Am I a quitter? Well, sometimes.
Am I a quitter when there are card shops to hunt? Well, sometimes.
What I'm trying to get at is there are a ton of card shops in El Paso and tonight I was on a mission to hit up a few shops that were closed Monday night. First up, Freddy's.
This oscar robertson was a fun find. Plus a few cheap bucks cards stacked.
The real fun though? Freddy himself. Great fella. Perhaps my favorite card shop owner yet. He had some crazy Pokemon stories too boot. Dude is making bank.
Fun.
Trades are back! My backlog of received trades is piling up, but here I am chasing the end of a set with John. This is our fourth deal together.
Looks like we've got a steelers fan on our hands. I should ask him what he thinks of rodgers. lol
Pretty sure I've lol'd and said same thing about another trade at some point. Well, I just searched and it looks like I have taken the chronicle title literally.
My next trade partner, Marc, is just a good dude. I'm chasing the end of a set, he's hooking me up, and he's like feel free to grab a bunch of extra stuff off my wantlist because he's about to shut down trading and wouldn't mind hooking me up.
I end up telling him to keep the extras, take the extra time it would take to pull them, and use that time to give someone he loves a good ol' fashioned hug ball. This MFer says, will do, but I'm still sending you extra cards. He out niced me!
I almost forgot to snap a photo here and that nolan ryan is the card I went digging for in that old trade referenced previously.
Anywho: Imagine all the people, Sharing all the world
No trades today. I could if I wanted. I don't wanna.
toni is a sneaky fun character in NBA history. Part of the legendary bulls teams, one of the first european phenoms, and he ended up have a fun little run with the bucks to close his career.
Dude could hoop.
I continue to spend the majority of my free time reorganizing my basketball cards (most of 'em at least). It's largely a base card adventure that scratches my set collector itch. It also helps to keep my hands and feet busy; all while letting my mind wander.
One box "complete" (🫠🫠) and another started.
Most of my best ideas happen with a wandering mind and some cards in my hands.
As I improve the organization of my set collector self, I often run into the need to open up space in other boxes to help find room in the box I'm currently working in. Point is, that forces me into my PC boxes and the best cards of my favorite people. It's two ideas that merge into one - eventually.
First favorite up for fixin'? The alien. The second and third photos are of the first wave of an idea that eventually became this site. That divider I created made out of cut up cards and other supplies probably has the most inside jokes you'll find on one of my homemade dividers. Including, but not limited to, this inside joke.
Good one to show up on momma bear day.
The next fella that needs to get moved from this box to that box to make room for another box that eventually can't be this box......
I have mixed feelings about black mamba showing up on mother's day. First, he probably sexually assaulted a woman; not great for a day designed for the ladies. Second, he was a girl dad who seemed to be a genuinely good girl dad. Third, he's no longer with us.
All of which must make this a terrible day for the mother of his remaining children is what I'm trying to get at.
Anywho, my kobe collection is kinda sick. Nothing outrageous, and still plenty cool to walk through. Shouts to jeff meff who gets to display many of the best ones.
Last up, we have ron's boi.
So, yeah my mom (more to come there) took all of us kids to a milwaukee bucks playoff game that also just so happened to be the greatest game of tim thomas's life. Coincidentally, it's also the most memorable basketball game I've ever been to in my life.
These three player's just randomly showed up today. All with stories attached to moms.
Huh.
I just finished up the last box on the mission that started when I realized that my 1996-1998 cards were bursting at the seams of the current boxes they were in.
In short, I made my way through 1971 through 2013. What's the significance of 2013? That's the year that our number one boi, mr. antetokounmpo, was drafted. Once we hit 2013, we shift back to the most fully formed version of my current reorganization mission.
The cards I just processed? They'll be processed again to catch up to that same mission, but later. Somehow, this all makes sense to me - even when it doesn't.
A little bit of ugh though too. Look at those trade envelopes piling up in that same box.
Only so much time in a day. Only so much time in a day.
Patience.
